My Contribution - Environment Art
Design an environment that not only captures the atmosphere of a 1980s fishing village, but also clearly communicates a narrative to the player
Create a background layout and prepare files so that other team members can easily access and edit them
Illustrated various keyframes for in-game screens
Assisted with UI design
As the lead environment artist on Private Ear, my task was to create a compelling environment; because we had no characters in the game, it was up to the background design to tell the story we wanted. Thus, my challenge was to create something that both showed the aftermath of a murder and also was practical for gameplay purposes. I referenced the backgrounds of Ace Attorney as inspiration for perspectives that made the most sense for a point and click game. Additionally, file organization was key during this project as I had to hand off the background design to other artists to be colored.
